Fireman Sam Birthday Cake

Here's a cake I made for Kian, my close friend's son. He turned 2 recently and is in love with all things Fireman Sam, so obviously he wanted a Fireman Sam themed cake!

The fire engine is made from delicious vanilla cake and the Fireman character is hand modelled from fondant.

The cake was a huge hit at Kian's birthday party, thankfully! x

Teddy Bear's Picnic Christening Cake

Usually christening cakes are blue for a boy and pink for a girl, but not this one! This was for Darcie's christening, and she was having a Teddy Bear's Picnic theme. Her mum asked for the bears and picnic to be in chocolates and cream colours, so here is the finished cake!

All the bears are handmade from fondant. They are such fun to make!

We had a disaster during the delivery. Just as I was about to knock on the front door, a gust of wind blew the lid off the cake box, and it knocked the littlest bear off the top of the cake! Luckily he hadn't left a mark on the cake, but he suffered broken legs in the accident :-(

I hope Darcie had a fabulous christening! xx

Two Tier Christening Cake

Here's a gorgeously cute cake I did for Dexter's christening this weekend. It's a two tier sponge cake, the top being vanilla and the bottom chocolate, iced in contrasting baby blue and white icing. The tiers then have baby footprints in opposite colours on, and the cake has Dexter's name on blocks.

The cake is topped off with a cute modelled train topper.

I hope Dexter had a lovely christening! xx

W063 - Four Tier Claret and White Wedding Cake

Recently it was the wedding of Lindsay and Kyle, and I had the great honour of making their wedding cake and surprise groom's cake! They had ordered a four tier wedding cake decorated with delicate piped swirls and quilted effect finished with silver dragees and, unknown to Kyle, Lindsay had ordered him a groom's cake in the shape of a VW camper van, as he loves them!

Here are the cakes, set up at the Cedar Court Hotel, Wakefield:

Congratulations Lindsay and Kyle, and I hope you had a brilliant day! xx

Gruffalo Birthday Cake

Here's a cake we made for Ellis' birthday. He loves the Gruffalo, so we were asked to put a whole family of them on the cake!

Each gruffalo is hand modelled and totally edible.

The cake is finished with a message, some little stars and an edible bow.

Happy Birthday Ellis! x

Black and Silver 21st Birthday Cupcakes

These cupcakes were made for a surprise birthday party and were all vanilla topped with vanilla frosting. Some had black stars, some had silver stars and some had silver '21's on.

They were displayed under a 6" round cake on a tower, and this is the photo my customer sent along with a message to say they were delicious!

Thanks for looking x

18th Birthday Cake

A great idea for a young lad's 18th birthday cake - nudey ladies popping out of a present! The ladies were hand modelled from fondant but have some stars covering their modesty :)

Sail Boat Themed Cake

I was sent a photo of  a boat and asked to replicate this in cake. This was the first proper boat cake I've done, and it took me a fair old while! Inside was delicious vanilla sponge cake.

The cake was completed by adding a little edible captain figure.

Thanks for looking! x

80th Birthday Cake

About a month ago I made a very individual wedding cake (http://www.joscakeshuddersfield.blogspot.com/2012/01/80s-themed-wedding-cake.html) and the bride's mum asked if I could make a birthday cake for her next door neighbour who was turning 80. He keeps geese, so she asked if I could make a duck pond style cake but with some white geese on, and here it is.

The bullrushes were made using raw spaghetti and everything was edible.

What a lovely neighbour! xx

Winnie The Pooh style cake

One of my friends' little boys was turning one, so of course he had to have a cake! He loves Winnie the Pooh so we made him this cake.

Everything is edible, and the characters are hand modelled. Inside the cake was a delicious chocolate sponge - it's making my mouth water just thinking about it! Happy Birthday Kian! xx

Pirate Treasure Chest Birthday Cake

Yarrr, this be a VERY last minute cake this one! Lucas' mum had been let down by someone who was supposed to be making this birthday cake, and she called me to see what I could do 2 days before the party. As soon as I had finalised the order with her, I put the oven on and got baking!

Lucas was having a pirate themed birthday party, and needed a piratey cake to go with it. We decided on a treasure chest with edible gems spilling out of it. Inside the cake was a delicious chocolate cake and the cake was iced in fondant, sat on a board covered in fondant and dessicated coconut "sand". The message was hand painted onto a piece of fondant which I coloured to look old and a bit like a scrap of treasure map.

I hope Lucas had a brilliant birthday and party. Shiver me timbers! xx

Gardening Themed 90th Birthday Cake

I was asked to make a cake for a gentleman who loved his garden, and here it is! Inside was a rich luxury fruit cake laced with plenty of brandy (a fruit cake isn't a fruit cake without alcohol in it!).

Complete with edible handmade figure relaxing in his chair, and vegetable patch. I had a message from the lady who ordered it to say "Hi Jo, Just wanted to say thanks 4 the cake, it was great and everyone enjoyed it!". x

Nightmare Before Christmas Birthday Cake

This cake was made for Sue, who is a massive Nightmare Before Christmas fan (when she came to collect the cake she had a handbag with Jack Skellington on - this lady LOVES him!!). Sue had an idea in mind for the cake, but I did a quick sketch and emailed it over.

A few tweaks of the design later, and this is the finished cake. Inside was chocolate orange sponge, vanilla and chocolate cake. Yum yum!

Close up of the Jack Skellington topper. He's handmade from fondant and totally edible, although I don't think I could eat something so cute!
Thanks for looking xx

Thomas the Tank Engine 3D Carved Cake

This was my first attempt at a 3D Thomas cake, and overall I was pretty pleased with how he turned out. His face was a bit on the small side (he looks like he's eaten the Fat Controller!), but I know for next time! I also made some vanilla cupcakes to go with this order featuring Thomas' face.

Thanks for looking x

Three Tier 1st Birthday Cake

Here's a cake I really loved making - a three tier chocolate cake decorated in different shades of blue and topped with a cute clown topper. I've a thing about clowns - I don't really like them, but I didn't mind this one! I think it's because he's so cute (and edible!).

A 1st birthday is always a massive occasion, and there's no better way to celebrate than with a special cake. xx

Barcelona FC Football Shirt Cake

All boys like football right? Especially Kobe, who's mum asked if I could make him a shirt from Barcelona FC for his birthday. Now I'm not Barcelona's biggest fan, ever since my hubby took me there a couple of years ago for a nice romantic break and we ended up spending nearly a whole day on the Nou Camp Stadium tour - here's me looking thrilled next to the pitch.

Kobe's cake turned out well, and his mum was really pleased with it, which is brilliant. Here it is...

The logo was quite tricky, but I used royal icing and a bit of patience and got there eventually! x
