Baby Shower Gift Basket Cake

Here's a cake we created for a baby shower. The mum to be doesn't know the sex of her baby, so we incorporated pink and blue items.

The cake is a double height cake iced in fondant which is made to look like a basket. This meant we had to attach strips of fondant to create the basket weave look and it took ages! The effect is amazing though, so well worth it. The cake is finished off with hand modelled items including a cute teddy bear, bib, booties, rattle etc.

Congratulations!

Teddy Bear's Picnic Christening Cake

Usually christening cakes are blue for a boy and pink for a girl, but not this one! This was for Darcie's christening, and she was having a Teddy Bear's Picnic theme. Her mum asked for the bears and picnic to be in chocolates and cream colours, so here is the finished cake!

All the bears are handmade from fondant. They are such fun to make!

We had a disaster during the delivery. Just as I was about to knock on the front door, a gust of wind blew the lid off the cake box, and it knocked the littlest bear off the top of the cake! Luckily he hadn't left a mark on the cake, but he suffered broken legs in the accident :-(

I hope Darcie had a fabulous christening! xx

Owl and Hedgehog Themed Birthday and Christening Cake and Cupcakes :)

I was contacted by Joshua's mum who asked if we could make a cake to celebrate Joshua's first birthday and his christening, and she sent me a picture of the invitations and asked if we could incorporate details from these onto the cake.

Here's the invitation (I think it's called Happitree)...

 And here's the cake!

And some hedgehog cupcakes too :-)

Happy Birthday Joshua! :-) xx

Three Tier Owl Birthday Cake

This was my own birthday cake which I finally got to make this weekend (only six months late hehe). When it was my actual birthday I was 41 weeks pregnant and had my daughter two days later, so wasn't really in the best frame of mind for baking!!

It's a gluten free lemon cake iced in fondant and then finished with a cute owl design.

Happy Birthday to me! xx

Navy and Ivory Blossom Wedding Cupcake Tower

Here's a cupcake tower we delivered the other week to Tankersley Manor Hotel at Barnsley. Took my whole family on the delivery (haha!) and while I was setting up the tower, my hubby sat in the car with our baby and saw the West Brom players! Apparently H was less than impressed with the likes of Ben Foster though.

The top of this cake tower was baked by the groom's mum and was a rich fruit cake, which I marzipanned and decorated to match their scheme. The cupcakes had a singe navy blue blossom on, and were encased in a beautiful butterfly wrapper.

Gorgeous!

Two Tier Christening Cake

Here's a gorgeously cute cake I did for Dexter's christening this weekend. It's a two tier sponge cake, the top being vanilla and the bottom chocolate, iced in contrasting baby blue and white icing. The tiers then have baby footprints in opposite colours on, and the cake has Dexter's name on blocks.

The cake is topped off with a cute modelled train topper.

I hope Dexter had a lovely christening! xx

Two Tier Pink 21st Birthday Cake

Here's a two tier birthday cake we did last week for Naomi's 21st birthday. The top tier was lemon sponge cake with lemon filling and the bottom was vanilla cake with vanilla filling and strawberry preserve.

The bottom tier was decorated with hearts, and the top with stripes of pink fondant.

The top tier was finished with a spray of pink hearts and we piped a message onto the cake for Naomi.

The cake survived me driving it to Barnsley, which is a fair old way from little ol' Jo's Cakes HQ!! Thanks for looking x

Pastel Pink Funky 1st Birthday Cake

It finally happened - someone requested a girly version of our popular tiered 1st birthday cake! I love doing these cakes, but the ones I've done have been mainly for boys so I was thrilled to get the chance to do a super girly version.

I made a number 1 from icing to sit on the top of the cake.

Inside was a delicious vanilla cake with vanilla filling and strawberry preserve - yum yum!

Thanks for looking xx

Chocolate and Blue Giant Cupcake for Christening

Katie asked if I could make a giant cupcake for her son Finley's christening with some "normal" sized cupcakes for her guests. The colour scheme was specified by Katie, and here's the final result!

Handmade edible bow detail

Chocolate frosting with fondant stars

Bootees detail

Chocolate cupcakes topped with chocolate frosting

Waiting for delivery... :)
Inside the giant cupcake was a vanilla sponge cake topped with chocolate frosting, and the normal cupcakes were chocolate sponge with chocolate frosting, made with finest Fair Trade cocoa.

Thanks for looking! xx

Rainbow Blocks Christening Cake

Here's a funky christening cake! A square lemon sponge cake iced in fondant with teeny footprints traipsing across the cake. The baby's name is on building block style blocks, and the date has been put on there as well. We can change colours on this - perhaps have the cake iced in white with the rainbow blocks, or have it pink with white blocks - there are loads of possibilities!

To enquire about our christening cakes, please contact Jo on jos.cakes@ntlworld.com and we'll be glad to assist.

Baby Shower Cake

This is so cute! This little baby shower cake was created for Nicole for her friend's baby shower.

This cake is a delicious moist chocolate cake with vanilla filling, decorated in pretty pink and white fondant. with fondant bow on top. The little baby is all handmade from fondant and is possibly the cutest thing I have ever made!

This cake is based on an image she found online. If you know who I need to credit for the inspiration cake, please let me know. I've had a look through Google Images and can't find it!

Update! I found it! It's here www.piece-a-cake.com/

Christening Cakes

I thought I'd share a few christening cakes I've done this year, seeing as my blog so far is about wedding and birthday cakes! I can't wait to plan our baby's christening. I've still got the top tier of my wedding cake from two years ago and am definitely going to incorporate that somewhere into the design of the cake - I've just got to think of how! Oh, and I still need to convince my husband that we need to have a christening. He thinks it's just an excuse for me to have a party hehe. Below are some of my favourite christening cakes that I've done.

I love the mix of different shades of blue on this cake. Everything is edible except the wires in the stars topper.
The presents style of cake proved to be very popular this year,  especially for boys' christenings, but this was the top cake for a christening cupcake tower for a little girl.

A single tier version of the popular train christening cake, this time with an edible bow trimming the cake. I'm getting quite into making the bows edible - I always think you might as well eat as much of a cake as you can!

I'm sorry for the quality of the picture in this one - I was rushing, and it looked fine on the camera screen but as it turned out, it was rubbish! I love this two tier cake with teeny baby topper.

This has to be the most popular christening cake design I do - I've done 6 or 7 of these in the last six months! They're brilliant though as they're quite modern and funky, and we can change bits and pieces. This one has some little bootees on the top, but I've done ones with teddy bears and rabbits on the top too.
Now I've just got to find out which design to do for my own cake. We've been told we're having a baby girl but I don't want to plan a pink one in case she turns out to be a he! xx
