Fireman Sam Birthday Cake

Here's a cake I made for Kian, my close friend's son. He turned 2 recently and is in love with all things Fireman Sam, so obviously he wanted a Fireman Sam themed cake!

The fire engine is made from delicious vanilla cake and the Fireman character is hand modelled from fondant.

The cake was a huge hit at Kian's birthday party, thankfully! x

Two Tier Superheros Birthday Cake

I *loved* making this cake! It's based on a cake by Miss Catty (http://www.flickr.com/people/misscattycakes/).

Sonny loves all things Marvel and The Avengers, so we included the characters from this amongst others. The characters are printed onto edible paper and then attached to the cake using lollipop sticks, so they're like superhero lollies :)

Happy Birthday Sonny! x

Star Wars R2D2 Birthday Cake

Here's a fab cake for a Star Wars fan's birthday. Hand modelled figure and hand cut Star Wars logo :)

I had an email from Aaron's mum to say that Aaron and his friend's loved the cake, which is always nice to hear :)

Owl and Hedgehog Themed Birthday and Christening Cake and Cupcakes :)

I was contacted by Joshua's mum who asked if we could make a cake to celebrate Joshua's first birthday and his christening, and she sent me a picture of the invitations and asked if we could incorporate details from these onto the cake.

Here's the invitation (I think it's called Happitree)...

 And here's the cake!

And some hedgehog cupcakes too :-)

Happy Birthday Joshua! :-) xx

Cloudbabies Cake

This was a cake we created for Sacario's birthday. He is the most gorgeous little boy ever! He loves the Cloudbabies, so we created a two tier cake with the characters on. His mum asked for the tiers to be wonky, as she is a fan of that style of cake, so here's the finished article!

I must confess, I've no idea who or what the Cloudbabies are so I had to spend a bit of time on Google doing some research!!

There were also some matching cupcakes featuring either rainbows or clouds to go with the cake :)

I hope Sacario had an amazing birthday party :-D xx

Three Tier Owl Birthday Cake

This was my own birthday cake which I finally got to make this weekend (only six months late hehe). When it was my actual birthday I was 41 weeks pregnant and had my daughter two days later, so wasn't really in the best frame of mind for baking!!

It's a gluten free lemon cake iced in fondant and then finished with a cute owl design.

Happy Birthday to me! xx

Two Tier Pink 21st Birthday Cake

Here's a two tier birthday cake we did last week for Naomi's 21st birthday. The top tier was lemon sponge cake with lemon filling and the bottom was vanilla cake with vanilla filling and strawberry preserve.

The bottom tier was decorated with hearts, and the top with stripes of pink fondant.

The top tier was finished with a spray of pink hearts and we piped a message onto the cake for Naomi.

The cake survived me driving it to Barnsley, which is a fair old way from little ol' Jo's Cakes HQ!! Thanks for looking x

Horse/Pony Themed Birthday Cake

Macey loves horses and ponies - what little girl doesn't? I know I did as a youngster! Macey's mum asked if I could create a cake for her birthday with a modelled pony on, and this is what I did. It's based on a cake she found online here (I'm not sure of who the baker is of the original) and is delicious vanilla sponge decorated with fondant.

Two Tier Princess Castle Birthday Cake

Here's a two tier birthday cake we made for Emilie's birthday. It's a version of one we made earlier in the year but Emilie's mum asked if we could include a sleeping angel figure as she calls Emilie her little angel :)

The top tier has a hand modelled fairy princess castle as a topper topped with a bit of sparkly lustre dust, and the bottom tier has sugar butterflies and blossoms on.

Pastel Pink Funky 1st Birthday Cake

It finally happened - someone requested a girly version of our popular tiered 1st birthday cake! I love doing these cakes, but the ones I've done have been mainly for boys so I was thrilled to get the chance to do a super girly version.

I made a number 1 from icing to sit on the top of the cake.

Inside was a delicious vanilla cake with vanilla filling and strawberry preserve - yum yum!

Thanks for looking xx

Fireman Sam Cupcakes

It's always nice to get repeat orders from customers, so I was really pleased to be asked to make some cupcakes for one of my recent customer's nephew's birthday party. He loves Fireman Sam, so I made vanilla cupcakes topped with vanilla frosting and a fondant disc with an edible image of Fireman Sam on. There were six different images which made a nice variety in the 24 cupcakes.

These cupcakes are £1.75 each, and we can make them with literally any image on. Please contact us for more details.

Thanks for looking! x

Zebra Print Wonky 18th Birthday Cake

This is a version of one of the first wonky cakes I ever did, and every time I get asked to make it I love doing it. I'd have loved a cake like this for my 18th (many many moons ago now!). Two tiers of vanilla cake carved into the classic wonky shape with zebra print sugarpaste/fondant icing decoration, finished with ostrich feathers and a sparkly diamante number.

I had a message from Amie's mum to let me know she loved it, which was lovely  ~ "Thanks so much Jo the cake is beautiful Amie loves it x". I hope Amie had a brilliant 18th birthday, and not too much of a hangover the day after! xx

Giant Cupcake in Pinks

A birthday cake with a difference, this giant cupcake was created for my client's mum. She loves the colour pink, so my only instruction was to make the cake with pink colours.

Inside the cake is delicious vanilla sponge cake which is topped with pink frosting and fondant butterflies and blossoms - yum yum! x

Winnie The Pooh style cake

One of my friends' little boys was turning one, so of course he had to have a cake! He loves Winnie the Pooh so we made him this cake.

Everything is edible, and the characters are hand modelled. Inside the cake was a delicious chocolate sponge - it's making my mouth water just thinking about it! Happy Birthday Kian! xx

Teddy Bear's Picnic ~ with a Twist!

I was asked to create a cake for Skye's birthday last week. Skye was having a party with a teddy bear's picnic in an enchanted forest, guided by a fairy and an elf, and asked if we could create a cake along the lines of this theme. Here we have three bears enjoying a picnic while the fairy and elf sit either side of the birthday girl's name.
Finished cake

I decided to put Skye's name on a wood effect plaque to tie in with the woodland theme, along with some funky toadstools

I hope that despite the freezing cold weather we've been having here in Yorkshire recently, Skye had a fabulous birthday party and that the teddy bears didn't eat all her birthday cake! xx

Purple Present Style Cake

This is my family Christmas cake this year. After creating and decorating cakes for other people all year, I've been a bit lazy with my own cake and decorated it simply like a gift! Inside is a rich fruit cake (gluten free of course) covered in marzipan. I used purple fondant, as Jo's Cakes' colours are purple and white, and put a handmade fondant bow on the top. This would make a fabulous 1st birthday cake, as we can add a message on a gift tag.

I can't wait until Christmas Eve to cut into it!

Thanks for looking! xx

Thomas the Tank Engine 3D Carved Cake

This was my first attempt at a 3D Thomas cake, and overall I was pretty pleased with how he turned out. His face was a bit on the small side (he looks like he's eaten the Fat Controller!), but I know for next time! I also made some vanilla cupcakes to go with this order featuring Thomas' face.

Thanks for looking x

Patchwork Peppa Pig Birthday Cake

I was asked to create a cake for Hannah's birthday which featured Peppa Pig, but other than that I was given free rein regarding design, which was fabulous! I'm having a bit of a phase of loving all things crafty and vintage, so I thought the Peppa Pig could be "appliqued" to the cake with other bits and pieces to look like patches. Thank goodness for my stitch tool!

Hannah's mum was thrilled with the cake when she collected it, and I loved making it! xx

Three Tier 1st Birthday Cake

Here's a cake I really loved making - a three tier chocolate cake decorated in different shades of blue and topped with a cute clown topper. I've a thing about clowns - I don't really like them, but I didn't mind this one! I think it's because he's so cute (and edible!).

A 1st birthday is always a massive occasion, and there's no better way to celebrate than with a special cake. xx
