Vintage Birds/Bunting Birthday Cake - My Baby's 1st Birthday Cake!

This is my baby girl's birthday cake. She turned 1 on 12 April - how quickly this last year has gone! I spent my own birthday ganaching her cake with white chocolate ganache flavoured with lemon, and the next day decorating her cake. Surely that's not right?! I spent my birthday last year hoping I wouldn't go into labour! Hehe.

I went for a vintage/shabby chic look for Holly's cake, as I love it! Not sure about Holly, but she certainly loved her cake. We put her in the high chair and gave her the top tier to "play with" - cue one very sticky, cake-covered baby! I'll have to try and get some photos of her and her cake, but in the mean time here are some of the cake.

Zebra Print 18th Birthday Cake

Here's a fab cake I really enjoyed making! It was a last minute request as my customer had been let down by another cake maker, and I was given free rein with the design. I decided on a funky zebra print pattern with a fab pink bow.

My customer loved the cake, which was brilliant!

Here's a first attempt at carving a horse from cake! This was for Sophie's birthday and she loved the end result!

The whole thing is edible, including the rosette :)

I heart 1980s!

Being an 80s child myself (albeit early 80s) I am partial to all things 1980s, so when I was asked to create a cupcake tower for a friend's birthday I couldn't wait!

There were cupcakes with Rubix cubes on, Pacman, some with 40 on in neon colours and the I love 80s ones, which were my personal favourite.

Happy Birthday Annelie! xx

Twilight Birthday Cake

Mei-Li loves Twilight, so her mum asked if we could make the Twilight books from fruit cake for her birthday. Here's what we did...

Three Tier Owl Birthday Cake

This was my own birthday cake which I finally got to make this weekend (only six months late hehe). When it was my actual birthday I was 41 weeks pregnant and had my daughter two days later, so wasn't really in the best frame of mind for baking!!

It's a gluten free lemon cake iced in fondant and then finished with a cute owl design.

Happy Birthday to me! xx

Congratulations to Marcia and her new hubby! xx

Peppa Pig and George Birthday Cake

Here's a cake we made for Scarlett, who loves jumping in muddy puddles like Peppa!

Hand modelled characters of Peppa and George sitting in a muddy puddle are on the top of the cake, as is a little duck pond with cute little ducks.

Scarlett's age is laid out in daisies with hand piped centres, with her name on pink discs then the letters hand piped on.

 Happy Birthday Scarlett! x

Two Tier Pink 21st Birthday Cake

Here's a two tier birthday cake we did last week for Naomi's 21st birthday. The top tier was lemon sponge cake with lemon filling and the bottom was vanilla cake with vanilla filling and strawberry preserve.

The bottom tier was decorated with hearts, and the top with stripes of pink fondant.

The top tier was finished with a spray of pink hearts and we piped a message onto the cake for Naomi.

The cake survived me driving it to Barnsley, which is a fair old way from little ol' Jo's Cakes HQ!! Thanks for looking x

Horse/Pony Themed Birthday Cake

Macey loves horses and ponies - what little girl doesn't? I know I did as a youngster! Macey's mum asked if I could create a cake for her birthday with a modelled pony on, and this is what I did. It's based on a cake she found online here (I'm not sure of who the baker is of the original) and is delicious vanilla sponge decorated with fondant.

Two Tier Princess Castle Birthday Cake

Here's a two tier birthday cake we made for Emilie's birthday. It's a version of one we made earlier in the year but Emilie's mum asked if we could include a sleeping angel figure as she calls Emilie her little angel :)

The top tier has a hand modelled fairy princess castle as a topper topped with a bit of sparkly lustre dust, and the bottom tier has sugar butterflies and blossoms on.

Thanks for looking! x

Zebra Print Wonky 18th Birthday Cake

This is a version of one of the first wonky cakes I ever did, and every time I get asked to make it I love doing it. I'd have loved a cake like this for my 18th (many many moons ago now!). Two tiers of vanilla cake carved into the classic wonky shape with zebra print sugarpaste/fondant icing decoration, finished with ostrich feathers and a sparkly diamante number.

I had a message from Amie's mum to let me know she loved it, which was lovely  ~ "Thanks so much Jo the cake is beautiful Amie loves it x". I hope Amie had a brilliant 18th birthday, and not too much of a hangover the day after! xx

Giant Cupcake in Pinks

A birthday cake with a difference, this giant cupcake was created for my client's mum. She loves the colour pink, so my only instruction was to make the cake with pink colours.

Inside the cake is delicious vanilla sponge cake which is topped with pink frosting and fondant butterflies and blossoms - yum yum! x

Hairdresser Themed Birthday Cake

Here's a cake made for a hairdresser, with edible straighteners, scissors and hair grip. I love the combination of pink and black - it's a very classy look. Sorry about the poor photo for this cake - there is supposed to be a spray of stars in the top left hand corner!

Winnie The Pooh style cake

One of my friends' little boys was turning one, so of course he had to have a cake! He loves Winnie the Pooh so we made him this cake.

Everything is edible, and the characters are hand modelled. Inside the cake was a delicious chocolate sponge - it's making my mouth water just thinking about it! Happy Birthday Kian! xx
